Tour Inca Trail 2 Day to Machupicchu – Private Service

In the past trekkers have always been able to spend the first night of the trek at the basic hostal located at Wiñay Wayna. However, due to many complaints about the standard and cleanliness of this hostal the hostal was closed at the end of 2004. This means that trekkers must now continue their trek to Machu Picchu and spend the night in a hotel in Aguas Calientes. Groups then return to Machu Picchu for a guided tour on the second day. This itinerary is rated moderate and should on

Overview

The Inca Trail 2 Day to Machupicchu – Private Service is the second option for those who did not have the opportunity to book the Classic Inca Trail 4-day, also for those who do not have many days, but who in no way want to ignore this unique experience. The Small Inca Trail 2-day is 10.5 kilometres/6.5 miles long that through the heart of the Andes, go into the rainforest and pass two beautiful Inca, Chachabamba and Wiñaywayna villages that are very well preserving and finally reaches one of the wonders of the world, Machu Picchu. Venture with your family (children) along the Inca trail that is ultimately protecting and signposted. Walk 6-hour through a smooth and quiet path enjoying the beauty of the landscape and the richness of biodiversity. The trek starts at Km 104 (104 kilometres along the railway from Cusco). It involves a four-hour walk uphill to Wiñay Wayna and a couple of hours further to Machu Picchu making it ideal for trekkers wanting to experience at least a part of the Inca Trail but haven't got the time (or energy) to complete the full four-day trek. As with the four-day version of the Inca Trail, regulations introduced in 2002 have prevented individuals from doing the trek solo. The majority of the new law applies for the two-day trek.

  • Day 2 Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco

After an early morning breakfast, we continue hiking the Inca Trail for about 2 hours up to the mysterious city of Machu Picchu that we enter for the early morning best photos opportunities. Then our Tour Guide shows us around the Incan city and explains us about its history and purposes. After the guided tour, we are given the opportunity to climb up for about 45 minutes to Huayna Picchu or to Machu Picchu Mountain (peaks above Machu Picchu serving to take some panoramic pictures of the Inka city). Then, we are given time off to spend and explore Machu Picchu on our own.

The 2 day Inca Trail ends up with a train ride to Ollantaytambo (alternatively to Poroy), from where we are taken by van back to Cusco.

Machu Picchu is both, the best and the least known site of the Incas as it is not mentioned in any Spanish conquistador´s chronicle so that contemporary archaeologists can not do anything more than just speculate on its functions. Local Quechuan farmers had known about Machu Picchu for centuries before an 11-year-old boy showed the American historian Hiram Bingham (who was in a search of Vilcabamba) this site on the 24th of July 1911. At that time, all the rest of the world became aware of its existence. However, the site was covered with thick vegetation so Hiram Bingham along with his team returned and within the years of 1912 and 1915 cleared its surface. Over the years, plenty of work has been done on excavating and studying the site. Despite these efforts, many unanswered questions remain.

Trip Info & Details

How is the tour organized?

On day 1, it starts at 7:30 am with a bus ride from Cusco City, we will make the sacred valley of the Incas with the destination of Pisac, Urubamba and Ollantaytambo village, witnessing the amazing natural beauty along the way. At the Ollantaytambo station, you’ll board a train until Aguas Calientes village, next to Machu Picchu, a priceless connection with nature too. for there’s a briefing with our professional staff and you could check the nightlife after, but go to bed early because on the next day it’s the splendid tour of the lost citadel. On day 2, we’ll take a bus until the Machu Picchu site for a 2:30 hours guided tour, after which there will be time for visitors to explore the place on their own. (Optional: hiking the Huayna Picchu mountain). The afternoon is free to continue having a great time in Aguas Calientes until 6:30 pm, when the return to Cusco City begins. More details in our itinerary Machu Picchu 2-Day package.

Is it time enough to have the “lost city” experience?

Yes! Even between Cusco City and Aguas Calientes you begin to marvel at the ecology of this region. Aguas Calientes has the same atmosphere as the citadel, surrounded by green mountains and on jungle highlands. Then, you’ll spend some 4 hours inside the sanctuary itself, perhaps hike the Huayna Picchu mountain and next go back to continue enjoying the village after an unforgettable excursion to the “lost city of the Incas”.

I have been told you get to Aguas Calientes by train. What are the options?

This is a very important Machu Picchu 2-day FAQ about our tour, we’re going to clarify next: The Expedition train is on the economical category. You will have nice windows for the views, typical Peruvian food for sale. The Vistadome train is elegant but still very affordable. Wide, panoramic windows both on the sides and roof, delicious Peruvian food is available for sale, to and from. On the trip back to the Ollantaytambo station, there is an alpaca fashion demonstration and a show with Andean music, dance and costumes. The Hiram Bingham is a luxury, 5-star train. It includes: a brunch, gourmet dinner (on the return trip) at its elegant restaurant, a bar car, observatory car to fully connect to the landscapes, live Peruvian music show, top on board service, panoramic windows. Please contact our team for booking one of them.

What was the god of the Q’anchis in the pre-Inca era?

The Q'anchis "Believed, that there is a Maker of all created things, which they call Teqci Wiraqocha." "To worship the sun, they should have taken them from the Incas." (Pedro Cieza, Chronicles of Peru) One day a man came named Contiti Wiraqocha Pachayachacheq, San Pedro de Cacha and taught them of the Creator God, and the men of Canas who occupied Cacha, wanted to kill him, but fire came down from heaven and they were afraid and escaped from the place. In memory of this fact, they built a temple in Raqchi. (Juan de Betanzos, Narration of the Incas, 1551)

I have also been told about the importance of carrying a passport in Cusco. Can you elaborate?

It is very important indeed to include this topic in a series of Machu Picchu 2-day FAQ. Foreign visitors will be required their passport information in archaeological sites, touristic attractions, accommodations and so on. We recommend to always have it at reach.

What could I do in Aguas Calientes?

Many exciting things! The Main Square is a great place to relax, take pictures, socialize with locals and other tourists, enjoy the natural energy and the views. There is the typical market where you’ll find everything Andean, like clothing, souvenirs, bags and so on, besides you could chat with the vendors, who are mostly people who still preserve a lot of the old Inca traditions. The Chavez Ballon museum will be quite an interesting introduction to the citadel’s history (we suggest you visit on day 1). There’s the Butterfly Research Institute, with guided tours in a simulated natural habitat. Many spas and Inca massage shops with a variety of beauty and relaxing treatments. Last but not least, the renowned thermal baths for an Inca-style treat.

What about the lodgings in Aguas Calientes?

Our 2-day itinerary includes a basic hotel with breakfast for night 1, but you can ask for a better one and choose from our partner hotels directory. Moreover, any package can be personalized and we also have the top option of private services and private tours to Machu Picchu.

How should I deal with altitude sickness?

A Machu Picchu 2-day FAQ indeed, but don’t worry, it will not ruin your vacation! Try getting to Cusco City some days before in order to better adjust to the lack of oxygen, avoid much physical effort initially, drink bottled water constantly and try coca leaves tea, which is the Andean tradition for getting an energy boost. If you still need pills, they will get you going in good shape, but only with prior medical permission.

What should I wear for this 2-day package?

All year long, temperatures in the Aguas Calientes-Machu Picchu region are higher than in Cusco City, so you must bring light clothes. If it happens to be rainy season (November to March) a rain poncho or rain jacket will be good too. In all cases, pack a sun hat, sunglasses, sunblock and bug repellent. If you’re going on the Huayna Picchu hike, don’t forget to do some stamina training in your country and pack good, used hiking boots (to avoid blisters, etc).

You can't miss the 4 day Inca Jungle tour!

On the recommendation of a friend we did the 4 day Inca Jungle tour with Terra Qechua Peru and it was a memorable experience. The trip started with a thrilling downhill bike ride and we did other activities such as rafting and zip lining, which added an extra adrenaline rush, followed by a hike through the rainforest full of fascinating flora and fauna, guided by a very knowledgeable expert. In addition, the natural hot springs in Santa Teresa were the perfect relaxation after active days. The final visit to Machu Picchu was the finishing touch, offering breathtaking views and a total immersion in Inca history.

The Inca Jungle is highly recommended

With my university classmates we did the 4-day Inca Jungle with Terra Quechua Peru and it was a great experience. We did a lot of adventure sports and the safety measures for the zip line, rafting and cycling were top notch. It was more fun than the Salkantay and much cheaper than the official Inca Trail. In general the whole experience is excellent, it has no waste, adventure tourism at its best, warmth of all the people who attended us and excellent guide, very professional, he answered all the questions we had and gave us a history lesson, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
